The Huskies got a new coach with a fresh attitude in the offseason and everyone in Montlake is starting to get their bark back. This site may not seem like a friendly place for such a notion, but a competitive Washington program is always welcome. The drama is too much fun to pass up.
But will this be a season to talk about for a once-proud program? It’s hard to imagine a team coming off an 0-12 season being immediately ready to compete. The home schedule is favorable, but then again, if you’re Washington, you’d rather have the winnable games at home. You can probably pencil in losses to LSU, USC, Oregon and Cal whether the games are played at home, away or on Mars.
The Huskies should get their first win since 2007 early in a home game against Idaho (when you haven’t won since 2007, the first winnable game figures to be the most pivotal to your season). After that, it’s hard to be certain of any win on the rest of the schedule. Games against Washington State, UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State figure to be their best bets and if the program is going to make a jump, that’s where it will have to happen.
