While a win over hated Washington at the end of 2008 brightened an otherwise dismal season, it’s hard to think of any other team for last place in the conference. The program has been shrouded in off-the-field troubles this offseason and there seems to be a huge gap between WSU and the rest of the league in terms of raw talent.
There are a couple winnable non-conference games, but after giving up 58 points or more 6 times a season ago, it’s hard to think the Cougars can instantly be competitive in the Pac-10. It’s quite possible Washington State will come into their final game of the season against Washington looking for its first Pac-10 win. When these are the expectations, this is the game you circle.
Washington State should be setting a primary goal if simply being more competitive. Getting demolished week in and week out isn’t acceptable for a program that once finished in the top 10 three straight seasons this decade.
