1. LaMichael James! I have been willing to drive his bandwagon from the beginning. I’m not sure 27 carries/game is a great idea, but that’s what it took to win on Saturday.
2. Uh, Chip, you have a quarterback controversy whether you like it or not. It doesn’t seem Nate Costa or Darron Thomas were considered at all against Utah and that’s fine. But anytime your quarterback gets three games into a season and still has 0 touchdown passes and seems to be getting worse, let’s face it, you have to consider the options.
3. I’m trying to think of a better defensive effort by Oregon in recent years. Nothing is coming to mind. Utah started three drives inside Oregon’s 25 yard line and got a total of 10 points from it. Still, I’m really uncomfortable with the concept that the defense is going to win games. This is all too new to me.
4. Good job Morgan Flint. Maybe I just have no confidence in the kicking game, but when he coolly knocked in the field goal to give Oregon a touchdown lead, I was relieved. Flint is untested in crunch time situations and it was nice to see him put three on the board when it was really needed.
5. I would still like to see a better pass rush. The defensive line is holding it’s own against the run, but despite the stellar overall performance today, in three games, I have yet to feel like Oregon is getting any real pressure on the quarterback. Fortunately, there are few, if any, QBs in the Pac-10 that have proven they can eat you alive if you give them time.
6. The punting units are an adventure. Penalties, touchdowns, blocks, fumbles. Yikes. A little consistency would be nice.

James is a great surprise and we really need a running threat.
Agreed that Masoli is struggling badly. Don’t underestimate his running ability though. Still, he needs to get in the groove and it better happen this Saturday. Also, we are very weak at the receiver positions and that doesn’t help him. This may be a running team.
I’ve got to say that there are plenty of QBs in the PAC-10 that will eat you alive if given too much time. Fortunately our defensive backs are looking really sharp!
That final punt, by a freshman, was impressive as was the snap.
Our whole family loved the unis.
I hate the Huskies. I wish they would lose every game they ever play. I hate the Huskies.

I don’t see how you can call our receivers “very weak” – you do realize that it’s Masoli’s job to get the ball into a “catchable” situation – which he didn’t do very often Saturday and hasn’t this season – the pass to Maehl was spot on, however. We have some guys that will catch the ball if and when Masoli gets the ball to them.
That may have been the reason so many plays were called up the middle – it DID serve to suck in the Ute defense and allow Masoli to get outside for some nice runs – and 2 TDs.
Re the punt “block” – Showalter (the “shield man” that got shoved back into the punter) is a senior and an experienced shield man – I’m surprised that when he felt he was being manhandled and pushed backward into Rice, he just didn’t duck his head and cut the guy’s legs out from under him – I don’t recall that being penalty material, especially if you make contact above the waist first.
I’m okay with the unies – much better than those garish yellowish/greenish mistakes they had for awhile.
Fuskies – just what they needed to award themselves a another National Championship without ever playing another game!

We liked the uniforms. They kind of grew on us.
In honesty, I could give a rip what they are wearing as long as they are winning games. They coud be out there butt naked, for all I care, I repeat, as long as they are winning games.
Love the video on “Mom’s Jeans” kudos to FOTB

Masoli is just really terrible. I can’t understand how this isn’t obvious to the coaching staff. He can’t make a read, set his feet or make an accurate throw. He holds the ball too long and stares down his receiver every time. You can see that our opponents don’t respect Masoli at all. Many times Saturday Utah had 9 in the box leaving receivers 1 on 1 with no safety help. We still can’t complete a pass much less make them pay for singling up. That is shocking. I love the kid for his heart, leadership and running ability, but we have to try someone else or just accept the fact that this is a borderline bowl team with no chance to make a run at the Pac 10 title. Purdue and Utah are bad teams friends. Really bad. Lets look ahead:
with our current offense:
Cal: loss
Wazu: win
at UCLA: loss
at UW: loss
USC: loss
at Stanford: win
ASU: win
at Zona: loss
OSU: toss up
5 – 6 win season kids. doesn’t work anymore in eugene.

You are right on with Point #2. I do like Masoli as a hard working football player but when it comes to crunch time, he isn’t making the cut. Chip has proven to be VERY stubborn in changing things. I imagine that Masoli will play the entire Cal game and even if the Ducks are getting blown out he’ll stay in. I really hope that Masoli can calm down and stop being so tentative. He is acting like he doesn’t have any confidence in his O-Line to give him the time to make the throw. As was said above, he is also spending way too much time looking at his receivers. He needs to make the read and move on if the receiver is covered instead of watching and waiting. That is one thing that is really killing him.
Cal is going to be a tough game. I hope that Oregon can keep it close and stop the stupid mistakes. They’ll have a chance if they play fundamental football.
