What Do You Do With LeGarrette Blount?

I’m struggling to figure out what to do with LeGarrette Blount. Following the game, I immediately began seeking fan reactions and my overwhelming feeling is that his worst moment as a Duck will be his last. From message boards to radio call-ins to text messages, it all feels like the end of LeGarrette Blount. John Canzano was the first to the printed punch (well, first that I read anyway) and he’s made it clear that Blount must go for Chip Kelly to get control of the program. And he’s probably right. One game in and it already feels like Kelly has reached a crossroads.

For LeGarrette, I’m genuinely bummed. Not for myself, not for Oregon’s reputation, just for him. I think he’s a better person than that. I liked watching him play. He competes with an infectious passion you can’t help but root for. Unfortunately, the passion swings to both sides of the pendulum and his ability to control his emotions got the best of him. Perhaps if he hadn’t been previously suspended or had a longer track record in the program, there would be room to work with. As much as the “sucker-for-second-chances” in me wants to say bring him back, the reality is too hard to ignore. LaMichael James, welcome to the limelight.
