Mostly useless but at least a little fun
The blog needs to focus on the positive to get through this week. Having to redo 80% of this post because of a crappy internet connection? Opportunity to do something even better the second time!
Same goes for this week’s Pac-10 Power Rankings. Happiness abounds! Losing is giving. Fumbling is sharing. Tackling is hugging.
It’s a second straight week with a full slate of Pac-10 football. The best Saturday’s are always free of a bye. The blog foresees many* a close game Saturday but these picks are feeling calm, cool and collected. *many of course is different than, say, “all” or “every” or “entire.” You get the point, right? [...]
When did the rivalry die for you? Was it 31-6? How about 55-34? 43-19? Oh, don’t tell me. You’re one of those people still insisting you despise the Huskies. Not silly-haha hate, but pure, unadulterated loathing that has your blood boiling at the mention of the color purple.
Words are so hard to read. Especially the big ones. Instead of blathering on about Washington and Oregon, why don’t we just represent the rivalry with this graph. In case that’s still too much to process, the blog has interpreted the data for you.
Let it be known, a dynasty was officially laid to rest on Saturday. It was for the best having slipped in and out of consciousness for a year now. Honestly, it just needed to happen.
Finally, a full Saturday of Pac-10 play. And it’s a juicy one. Will the Cougars break through? Can Cal keep it within 40 in a road game? Can Stanford keep on winning with no one noticing? And how ’bout that game in L.A.? No, not you UCLA.
Oregon remains the clear leader of the Pac-10 while also solidifying its spot at No. 1 in the human polls. The computers are still waiting to crunch some better numbers, but anything to give you an extra edge is worth having, right?
The Pac-10 held its press conference today to announce the future of the Pac-12. There are really three issues that are most important. I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Are you happy with this? Would you have preferred the zipper alignment?
As I look at my season against the spread, that 1-9 effort in week two continues to haunt me. I’d be setting mythical records if not for that uninspired effort. Then again, I don’t put a lot of effort into any of these picks. Luck has been my friend.
This whole “ranking the Pac-10″ thing is starting to seem pointless given that Oregon should have the Rose Bowl clinched in about two weeks. I guess I do it for the rest of the conference.
Sniff, sniff…mmm, that’s the delicious aroma of arrogance you smell.
